Call for Artist

The Southwest Montana Arts Council and Barrett Hospital and HealthCare invite artists’ proposals to transform a blank wall into a vibrant work of art celebrating movement, exercise, and healthy living. The mural will ultimately be a collaborative project with local students and will be installed on an outdoor concrete wall in a basement egress facing the Rehab Department. The budget for this project is $1000 to include all cost of materials and artist compensation.

Artists responding to this call for artists must provide the following information:
  1. Design proposal(s)
  2. An artist statement briefly explaining your design (maximum 200 words)
  3. Two professional references including contact information
  4. Four images of past work labeled with date, title, and medium

Artists may submit more than one design proposal (template) along with a statement for each design. Do not send any materials not specifically requested (i.e. transparencies, DVD’s/videos, articles, etc). If sent, they will not be reviewed by the jury. Submissions will not be returned.

Application and design criteria
  • Artist applicants must have experience and be willing to work with students, who will be part of the final design and installation process
  • Artist must provide a sample sketch and proposed use of colors, style and overall design. Reference any design elements if possible with examples. The entire wall is your canvas (7 feet tall x 53 feet wide). Be aware that some changes to the design may be required to accommodate site requirements
  • Designs cannot contain advertisement or promotion for any business, product, or viewpoint
  • Designs must include the themes of movement, exercise, and/or healthy living
  • Design proposals must include a plan or tips on weatherproofing and long term maintenance, as needed

Designs may not include any breach of intellectual property, trademarks, brands, images of illegal activity or involve the attachment of any object(s) to the wall.
